– The purpose of this paper is to introduce a chaotic harmony search (CHS) approach based on the chaotic Zaslavskii map to parameters identification of Jiles-Atherton vector hysteresis model. , – In laminated magnetic cores when the magnetic flux rotates in the lamination plane, one observes an increase in the magnetic losses. The magnetization in these regions is very complex needing a vector model to analyze and predict its behavior. The vector Jiles-Atherton hysteresis model can be employed in rotational flux modeling. The vector Jiles-Atherton model needs a set of five parameters for each space direction taken into account. In this context, a significant amount of research has already been undertaken to investigate the application of metaheuristics in solving difficult engineering optimization problems. Harmony search (HS) is a derivative-free real parameter optimization metaheuristic algorithm, and it draws inspiration from the musical improvisation process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. In this paper, a CHS approach based on the chaotic Zaslavskii map is proposed and evaluated. , – The proposed CHS presents an efficient strategy to improve the search performance in preventing premature convergence to local minima when compared with the classical HS algorithm. Numerical comparisons with results using classical HS, genetic algorithms (GAs), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and evolution strategies (ES) demonstrated that the performance of the CHS is promising in parameters identification of Jiles-Atherton vector hysteresis model. , – This paper presents an efficient CHS approach applied to parameters identification of Jiles-Atherton vector hysteresis model.

Olive oil represents an important component of a healthy and balanced dietary. Due to commercial features, characterization of pure olive oil and commercial mixtures represents an important challenge. Reported techniques can successfully quantify components in concentrations lower than 1%, but may present long delays, too many purification steps or use expensive equipment. Image analysis represents an important characterization technique for food science and technology. By coupling image and UV-VIS spectroscopy analysis, models with linear dependence on parameters were developed and could successfully describe the mixture concentration in the range of 0-100% in mass of olive oil content. A validation sample, containing 25% in mass of olive oil, not used for parameter estimation, was also used for testing the proposed procedure, leading to a prediction of 24.8 ± 0.6. Due to image analysis results, 3-parameter-based models considering only R and G components were developed for olive oil content prediction in mixtures with up to 70% in mass of olive oil, the same test sample was used and its concentration was predicted as 24.5 ± 1.2. These results show that image analysis represents a promising technique for on-line/in-line monitoring of blending process of olive soybean oil for commercial mixtures.

The advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) have become an interesting alternative to the automotive industry that aims to reduce the thickness of the components without compromising the structural performance and absorption capacity of impact. However, their mass utilization is still limited due to computational problems to predict the occurrence of the phenomenon of springback. Nonlinear unloading behavior following plastic deformation is identified as the factor that compromises the computational prediction of AHSS sheet forming. Moreover, it is observed sensitive dependence on correct choice of numerical parameters on the quality of the springback prediction such as the number of through-thickness integration points (NIP), coefficient of friction, the number of element on tool radius and simulation punch velocity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the degradation of elastic modulus and how the choice of numerical parameters can affect the computational prediction of AHSS springback. For this purpose, a user subroutine has been implemented in ABAQUS to describe the degradation of the modulus of elasticity during unloading, and several numerical parameters have been evaluated. It was possible to observe the influence of considering the degradation of elastic modulus during simulation and the large or small influence of some computational parameters.

Surface remelting is an important technique for modifying the microstructure of thermally sprayed coatings as it reduces the porosity and promotes a metallurgical bond between substrate and coating. Many studies have been carried out in the field of materials selection and surface engineering in an attempt to reduce cavitation damage. In this work, an Fe-Mn-Cr-Si alloy was deposited by arc spraying and then remelted by a plasma-transferred arc process. The base metal was a soft martensitic stainless steel. The influence of remelting current on coating and base metal microstructure and cavitation resistance was studied. The use of a lower mean current and a pulsed arc reduced the thickness of the heat-affected zone. In specimens remelted with constant arc current, dendrites were aligned parallel to the path followed by the plasma torch; while in those remelted with a pulsed plasma arc, the alignment of the microstructure was disrupted. The use of a higher peak current in pulsed-current plasma transferred arc remelting reduced mass loss due to cavitation. Fe-Mn-Cr-Si coatings exhibited cavitation-induced hardening, with martensite formation during cavitation tests. This transformation helps to increase the cavitation resistance of the remelted coating compared with the soft martensitic stainless steel base metal.
