Considering that the formulation of fire danger index helps in the planning of prevention and combat activities, revealing, in advance, the probability of occurrence and spread of forest fires. This work aimed to adjust and to validate the Fórmula de Monte Alegre for areas of eucalypt cultivation in the state of São Paulo. Data on relative humidity, rainfall and records of forest fires from 10/11/2003 to 4/29/2016 were used. For the analysis, the data set was divided into two parts, with the observations between years 2003 and 2013 (75%) being used to adjust FMA, while the data referring to the years 2014 to 2016 (25%) were used to validate the new classification generated according to the establishment of the new threshold values of distinction among the fire danger classes. The results showed that the establishment of new thresholds for the definition of the danger classes provided improvements in the efficiency of the Fórmula de Monte Alegre in predicting the occurrence of fires in the study region.

Considerando que a formulação de índices de perigo de incêndios auxilia no planejamento das atividades de prevenção e combate, refletindo de forma antecipada a probabilidade de ocorrência e de propagação dos incêndios florestais, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo realizar o ajuste e validação da Fórmula de Monte Alegre para áreas de cultivo de eucalipto no Estado de São Paulo. Foram utilizados dados de umidade relativa do ar, precipitação pluviométrica e registros de ocorrência de incêndios florestais no período de 11/10/2003 a 29/04/2016. Para a análise, o conjunto de dados foi dividido em duas partes, sendo que as observações entre os anos de 2003 e 2013 (75%) foram utilizadas para o ajuste da FMA, enquanto os dados referentes aos anos de 2014 a 2016 (25%) foram utilizados para validar a nova classificação gerada conforme o estabelecimento dos novos valores limiares de distinção entre a classes de perigo de incêndios. Os resultados demonstraram que o estabelecimento de novos limiares para as definições das classes de perigo proporcionou melhorias na eficiência da Fórmula de Monte Alegre em prever a ocorrência de incêndios na região de estudo.

The aims of this observational study were to (1) define which animal’s phenotypic characteristics determine social position in the context of a commercial organic farm with mixed herd (horned and non-horned cows) and (2) determine the influence of social position on the time at the feeder. We took the following measurements from 27 dairy cows in lactation: body mass, age, body condition score, body length, withers height, distance between horns, horn circumference and length. Replacement and time at the feeder were recorded for 1 h at the time of supplementation. Dominance values for each animal were calculated and the herd was divided into three social categories: dominant (D), intermediate (I) and subordinate (S). Age, body length and body mass influenced (p < 0.001) dominance value of all animals. The presence of horn influenced (p = 0.034) the dominance value of the I and S animals because it was a unique characteristic of these categories. Dominant (84.3%) and intermediate (75.2%) animals spend more time (p < 0.05) at the feeder than the subordinate (59.5%); however, dominant animals tended (p = 0.093) to spend more time at the feeder than the intermediate animals. The social position of an animal was influenced by its age, body mass and body length, and its social position influenced the time at the feeder.

Busca-se neste trabalho fazer uma contextualização do potencial das agroflorestas agroecológicas para a reconexão entre ser humano e natureza a partir de uma breve análise histórica fundamentada na percepção sobre o rompimento do metabolismo (fratura metabólica) entre esses elementos. Essa análise segue apontando diferentes formas de agricultura – invisibilizadas e constantemente pressionadas para sua extinção – em que os processos ecológicos são percebidos e utilizados para a produção. Discute-se a resiliência dessas agriculturas a partir de aspectos socioeconômicos da Agricultura Familiar e, nesse contexto, foram trazidos alguns fundamentos de práticas agroflorestais agroecológicas, apontando para sua capacidade de integração entre processos ecológicos e culturais na efetivação de uma forma de produção de alimentos que aproxima humanidade e natureza. Propõe-se, a partir dessa análise, caminhos para a reconexão da fratura metabólica entre esses elementos.

Tropical agriculture is highly dependent of soluble fertilizers, what raises the cost of production. An alternative to reduce the costs inputs is the use of low-cost alternative nutrient sources, such as the basic rocks. The aim of the work was to evaluate the effect of basalt powder on the soil chemical properties and plant growth. The experiment was arranged in a 2×2×2×3+4 factorial scheme: two soils (clay soil and sandy clay loam soil); two crops (maize and soybean); two agricultural inputs (basalt rock powder and limestone); three application rates (33, 66 and 99 Mg ha–1 of basalt powder or 1, 2 and 4 Mg ha–1 of limestone), and four additional control treatments, with four repetitions. The use of basalt powder resulted in greater shoots growth of maize and soybean plants when compared to the limestone. Basalt powder provided a significant increase in soil pH, Ca and P concentration; however, the higher concentration of P in the soil did not result in the greater P uptake by the plants. Even without a significant increase in the Mg concentration of the soil, basalt rock powder improved the absorption of this nutrient by the maize and soybean plants.
