Based on Benedict Anderson’s (1982) understanding of the nation as an "imagined community", in dialogue with Homi Bhabha's (1990) theorizing of the nation, this study seeks to investigate how Anita Desai employed different textual and performative strategies (Bhabha) to represent the fragmented nation(s) in the novel Baumgartner's Bombay (1988). Desai represented the nation under the tension - stated by Bhabha - between the pedagogical and the performative forces that compose it. I am particularly interested in Desai's exploration of individual and collective experiences of the Second World War and the Partition, respectively in Germany and in India. As a fragment of the nation(s), Hugo, the diasporic subject, has a proper imagery to represent his hybrid condition as indicated by Stuart Hall (2007).

Language without Borders was initiated by the Brazilian Federal Government and has undergone a series of modifications until its discontinuation as a government-sponsored program, when it was taken up by the academic community as a free enterprise. Currently, it is linked to Andifes (National Association of Directors of Federal Institutions of Higher Education). One of the main actions of Language without Borders is to offer the academic community tuition-free language courses. This article presents an interpretive content analysis of one of Language without Borders´s popular features: the catalog with information about the courses offered by the program. We engage with decolonial critiques in the process of exploring Language without Borders legislative pieces, focusing particularly on the English courses in the catalog. Our analysis looks into the uphold of English after the program became an Andifes enterprise to reflect on how the language is approached, given its discursive construction as the language of science in internationalization. Throughout the analysis, we visualize complexities and contradictions in a process permeated both by the reinforcement and delinking from modernity/coloniality.

In this article it is presented a critical discussion of the situation of Portuguese as an international language. It is pointed out that, in the last decade, there have been tentative efforts to create a multinational political management of the language by the revitalization of the Instituto Internacional da Língua Portuguesa. This revitalization was approved in the First CPLP Conference on the Situation of Portuguese in the Global System, which took place in Brasília in 2010. It is argued here that those efforts have been completely fruitless and have shown concretely that a multinational political management of the language is impossible. In consequence, it is suggested that those efforts should be abandoned. If the future fragmentation of Portuguese into a family of languages, which seems rather inevitable, national policies seem to be more effective. It will therefore be up to each country to take particular initiatives to promote its own variety of the language and its culture. It is pointed out that the recent creation by the Brazilian government of the Instituto Guimarães Rosa to promote Brazilian Portuguese and Brazilian culture can be seen as an important initiative in the right direction.

Transparency for sustainability in digital services represents an emergent challenge for organizations. In addition to the technological push to operationalize digital infrastructure and information systems, knowledge to support service designers in approaching transparency challenges is limited. An understanding of what sustainability transparency means and how to inform the scope for its application in service design is needed. A literature review of the historical evolution and key conceptualizations was used to provide a theoretical framework. Then, an exploratory multiple case study (ex-post-facto) (representing the different contexts of practice) was conducted to help validate and refine the framework. The provided framework can help in understanding the ethical, communication, and value-creation implications of the concept from the digital service-encounter to more systemic scopes.

La transparencia para la sustentabilidad en los servicios digitales representa un desafío emergente para las organizaciones. Además del impulso tecnológico para poner en funcionamiento la infraestructura digital y los siste información, el conocimiento para ayudar a los diseñadores de servicios a abordar los desafíos de transparencia es limitado. Se necesita una comprensión de lo que significa la transparencia de la sostenibilidad y cómo informar el alcance de su aplicación en el diseño del servicio. Se utilizó una revisión de la literatura sobre la evolución histórica y las conceptualizaciones clave para proporcionar un marco teórico. Luego, se llevó a cabo un estudio exploratorio de casos múltiples (ex-post-facto) (que representaba los diferentes contextos de la práctica) para ayudar a validar y refinar el marco. El marco proporcionado puede ayudar a comprender las implicaciones éticas, de comunicación y de creación de valor del concepto desde el encuentro de servicios digitales hasta niveles más sistémicos.

Transparência para a sustentabilidade em serviços digitais representa um desafio emergente para as organizações. Além do avanço tecnológico para operacionalizar a infraestrutura digital e os sistemas de informação, o conhecimento para apoiar designers de serviço em desafios de transparência é limitado. É necessário entender o que transparência para sustentabilidade significa e como orientar o escopo de sua aplicação no design de serviço. Uma revisão da literatura sobre a evolução histórica e principais conceituações no tema foi usada para fornecer uma estrutura teórica base. Em seguida, um estudo de caso múltiplo exploratório (ex-post-facto) (representando os diferentes contextos de prática) foi realizado para ajudar a validar e refinar a estrutura. A estrutura fornecida pode auxiliar na compreensão das implicações éticas, de comunicação e de criação de valor do conceito, desde o ponto de contato digital do serviço à escopos mais sistêmicos.
