O estado do Paraná é um dos maiores consumidores de agrotóxicos por hectare plantado do Brasil devido a sua grande produção agrícola. Apesar da necessidade do uso de agrotóxicos para atender a demanda de alimentos, estes podem causar danos ao meio ambiente e à saúde. Por isso, existem legislações que regulam, fiscalizam e controlam o uso indiscriminado de produtos que possam causar riscos. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi realizar um levantamento das legislações proibitivas ou restritivas referentes ao uso de agrotóxico nos 399 municípios do Paraná. As legislações foram obtidas através dos sites das prefeituras e câmaras municipais para análise comparativa. As leis foram classificadas quanto ao ano, tipo de lei e tipo de restrição. O tipo de lei foi dividido entre municipal, complementar, ordinária e orgânica, e o tipo de restrição em perímetro urbano e rural, tipos de produto, pulverização aérea e áreas especiais. Foram encontradas 103 leis em 100 municípios com restrição ou proibição quanto ao uso de agrotóxicos. A maioria das leis restringe o uso de agrotóxicos no perímetro urbano e delimitam uma distância mínima para aplicação na área rural. Também foram encontradas leis com restrições ao uso de classes de agrotóxicos, como o herbicida 2,4 D, e relacionadas a pulverização aérea.

Hunting activities are a potential risk factor for human infection with Leptospira spp. and, although wild boar seroprevalence has been studied, there are no concurrent serosurveys of wild boars (Sus scrofa), hunting dogs (Canis lupus familiaris), and hunters. The aim of our study was to assess the seroprevalence of Leptospira spp. antibodies in free-ranging wild boars, hunting dogs, and hunters, and risk factors associated with exposure in southern and central-western Brazil. Leptospira spp. antibodies were serologically detected using the microscopic agglutination test, with a total 30 serovars. Overall, 12.2% (9/74) of wild boars and 10.6% (16/170) of hunting dogs were seropositive for at least one serovar and all hunters 0.0% (0/49) were seronegative for Leptospira spp. Seropositivity was statistically higher in 42.1% (8/19) wild boars from natural areas when compared to 2.4% (1/41) from anthropized areas (P<0.001), with prevalence ratio of 17.14 (95% confidence interval: 2.29–128.36). Despite the limited sample size, our findings showed that hunters may be less exposed to Leptospira spp. than are wild boars, particularly in natural areas where Leptospira spp. may be maintained by wild reservoirs. In addition to acting as sentinels, hunting dogs may play a role in disease transmission of sylvatic leptospiral serovars.

Dairy activity expansion has resulted in increased manure volume produced, with the main destination application in agricultural areas. Accordingly, the aims of this study were to (i) evaluate the effects of dairy liquid manure (DLM), in addition to mineral fertilisation, on crop yields over a 9-year period and (ii) identify the soil chemical attributes modified by the manure, and which most affect grain yield. The experiment was conducted from 2005 to 2015 in a no-tillage system, in Paraná state, Brazil, in soil with sandy clay loam texture. The treatments consisted of four doses of DLM (0, 60, 120, and 180m3ha−1year−1) in addition to mineral fertiliser (same amount for all treatments). The DLM application increased maize and black oat yield but did not affect soybean and wheat yield. The DLM improved all evaluated soil chemical attributes and, even with application on the soil surface and no soil disturbance, the effect was observed in deeper layers. Maize grain yield was strongly correlated with soil chemical attributes, especially with pH (positive) and potential acidity (negative). The DLM application, in addition to mineral fertilisation, increased grain yield in a rotation system, especially of maize, with the effect mainly attributed to improvement in soil acidity attributes and the effect on nutrient availability. The estimated dose of DLM for maximum maize yield was 150m3 ha−1year−1, with 16% increment in grain yield.
