Objective: to search in the current literature the elements that exert an influence on feeding and nutrition in hospitalized aged people. Method: the following strategies were used for the integrative review stages: research question (Population or Patients; Exposure; Outcomes); analysis flowchart (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses); and levels of evidence corresponding to the studies (Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine). The searches were conducted in the MEDLINE/PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Embase, CINAHL and Scopus databases. Results: the initial search yielded 1808 studies, of which 34 comprised the analysis corpus after applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The assessments corresponding to nutritional status and to the risk factors for hospitalized aged people are fundamental in defining the diet. An association was found between inadequate energy intake, lack of appetite, infections, malignity, delirium and need for assistance in feeding. Dysphagia affected nutritional status and was associated with multimorbidities, cognitive impairment, malnutrition, higher dependence for the activities of daily living, and greater care need. Nutritional support improved the perioperative nutritional status, in addition to reducing the hospitalization times and the number of infectious complications. Conclusion: the main disorder that hinders meeting the nutritional needs is dysphagia, and is associated with aged people’s multimorbidity and dependence. The results provide geriatric and gerontological knowledge about elderly nutrition, in addition to targeting preventive and intervention treatments and care during hospitalization.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic multisystem osteoarticular disease that requires specialized care. Most Brazilians depend on the public healthcare provided by the Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde, SUS). This study aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics of patients with PsA in follow-up in SUS, focusing on the incidence and prevalence of the disease, comorbidities, and hospitalizations. We collected data from the Outpatient Data System of SUS (Sistema de Informações Ambulatoriais do SUS, SIA/SUS) regarding outpatient visits and hospitalizations in the Brazilian public healthcare system from January 2008 to March 2021 using the Techtrials Disease Explorer® platform and the medical code related to PsA were selected. We evaluated 40,009 patients and found a prevalence of 24.4 cases of visits due to PsA per 100,000 patients in follow-up in SUS. Female patients were predominant (54.38%). The incidence of visits due to PsA has been increasing in recent years and we observed an incidence of 8,982 new visits in 2020. The main comorbidities of these patients were osteoarthritis, lower back pain, shoulder injuries, oncological diseases, crystal arthropathies, and osteoporosis. Hospitalizations were mainly due to treating clinical or cardiovascular conditions and performing orthopedic procedures. The number of visits due to PsA in SUS has increased in recent years, mainly on account of new diagnoses of the disease, although the prevalence found in this study’s population was lower than that observed in the general population.

Acute neurological emergencies are highly prevalent in intensive care units (ICUs) and impose a substantial burden on patients. This study aims to describe the epidemiology of patients requiring neurocritical care in Brazil, and their differences based on primary acute neurological diagnoses and to identify predictors of mortality and unfavourable outcomes, along with the disease burden of each condition at intensive care unit admission. This prospective cohort study included patients requiring neurocritical care admitted to 36 ICUs in four Brazilian regions who were followed for 30 days or until ICU discharge (Aug-Sep in 2018, 1 month). Of 4245 patients admitted to the participating ICUs, 1194 (28.1%) were patients with acute neurological disorders requiring neurocritical care and were included. Patients requiring neurocritical care had a mean mortality rate 1.7 times higher than ICU patients not requiring neurocritical care (17.21% versus 10.1%, respectively). Older age, emergency admission, higher number of potential secondary injuries, and worse APACHE II, SAPS III, SOFA, and Glasgow coma scale scores on ICU admission are independent predictors of mortality and poor outcome among patients with acute neurological diagnoses. The estimated total DALYs were 4482.94 in the overall cohort, and the diagnosis with the highest DALYs was traumatic brain injury (1634.42). Clinical, epidemiological, treatment, and ICU outcome characteristics vary according to the primary neurologic diagnosis. Advanced age, a lower GCS score and a higher number of potential secondary injuries are independent predictors of mortality and unfavourable outcomes in patients requiring neurocritical care. The findings of this study are essential to guide education policies, prevention, and treatment of severe acute neurocritical diseases.

(en) Objective: the present study aimed to conduct a literature review to verify the use of plant species in the pathology’s asthma, bronchitis, COVID-19 and to identify the compounds responsible for pharmacological action. Methodology: The research was carried out in the databases Medline, Scielo, Web of Science, Lilacs and Scopus, using the keywords through the descriptors DeCS - Descriptors in Health Sciences. Divided into 3 steps; after adopting the inclusion and exclusion criteria, they were selected and read in full by 3 groups separately. The research resulted in 9 plants divided into 7 families and 8 isolated compounds responsible for therapeutic action. It was concluded that after the literary review in the period mentioned, it was possible to observe the therapeutic potential of plants to attenuate the inflammatory response during the exacerbation of asthma symptoms. However, more clinical studies should be conducted to complement the literature on the use of plant species, and more studies with larger samples and longer-term therapies are needed.
