Introduction: The search for less invasive techniques is necessary for the evolution of the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including the surgical management of facial trauma. Aim: The aim of this article is to propose a non-invasive approach that can be used in the treatment of fractures of the medial wall of the orbit and naso-orbito-ethmoid fractures. Surgical technique: The modified upper eyelid approach consists of a conventional upper palpebral incision on the medial aspect of the eyelid. After detachment of the respective external frame and internal orbit, access can be gained to the upper part of the naso-orbito-ethmoidal complex, the medial wall of the orbit and a small part of the frontal bone. Conclusion: The modified upper eyelid approach is an effective option for the treatment of fractures of the medial internal orbit and naso-orbito-ethmoidal complex, allowing the restoration of part of the external orbital frame and internal orbit without aesthetic compromise.

Introducción: La búsqueda de técnicas menos invasivas es necesaria para el avance de la especialidad de Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial y Traumatología, incluyendo el manejo quirúrgico del trauma facial. Objetivo: El objetivo de este artículo es proponer un abordaje mínimamente invasivo que pueda utilizarse en el tratamiento de fracturas de la pared orbitaria medial y fracturas naso-orbito-etmoidales. Técnica quirúrgica: El abordaje palpebral superior modificado consiste en una incisión convencional en el párpado superior sobre la cara medial del párpado. Tras el desprendimiento del reborde externo y la órbita interna respectivos, se puede obtener acceso a la parte superior del complejo naso-orbito-etmoidal, la pared orbitaria medial y una pequeña porción del hueso frontal. Conclusión: El abordaje palpebral superior modificado es una opción eficaz para el tratamiento de fracturas de la órbita medial interna y del complejo naso-orbito-etmoidal, permitiendo la restauración de parte del reborde orbitario externo y la órbita interna sin compromiso estético.

Introdução: A busca por técnicas menos invasivas é necessária para evolução da especialidade de Cirurgia e Traumatologia Bucomaxilofacial, incluindo no manejo cirúrgico dos traumatismos faciais. Objetivo: O objetivo do presente artigo é propor um acesso pouco invasivo, que pode ser usado no tratamento de fraturas da parede medial de órbita e fraturas naso-órbito-etmoidais. Técnica cirúrgica: O acesso modificado de pálpebra superior consiste em uma incisão convencional palpebral superior no aspecto medial da pálpebra. Após o descolamento da respectiva moldura externa e órbita interna, pode-se obter acesso a parte superior do complexo naso-órbito-etmoidal, a parede medial da órbita e uma pequena parte do osso frontal. Conclusão: O acesso modificado de pálpebra superior é uma opção efetiva para o tratamento de fraturas de órbita interna medial e complexo naso-órbito-etmoidal, permitindo o restabelecimento de parte da moldura externa orbital e órbita interna sem comprometimento estético.

Social media has become a key platform for health-related communication and patient experience sharing. In orthodontics, analyzing patient-generated content on social media helps uncover perceptions, motivations, and concerns related to treatment. Understanding the most commonly reported complaints allows orthodontists to offer solutions, enhancing overall patient satisfaction with treatment The objective of this study is to identify and categorize patient views on orthodontic treatment across social media, providing a broader understanding of global patients’ perspectives. The search was carried out on Instagram and X platforms using the hashtags #braces, #invisalign, #orthodontics, and #orthodontist. Data were collected over a seven-week period without restriction on languages or geographical locations. The qualitative analysis focused involved thematic categorization of posts content, while quantitative analysis used Pearson chi-square tests with Bonferroni-adjusted values, with a significance level of p < 0.05. A total of 18,605 posts were analyzed, with 96.60% (17,971 posts) from Instagram, and 3,4% (634 posts) from X platforms. Of the posts analyzed, 89.52% were made by dentists or dental clinics, 3.86% by dental product companies, and only 0.82% by patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Five main themes were identified in patient posts: “positive accounts of orthodontic treatment” (40.53%), “enthusiasm about starting treatment” (20.26%), “reports of anxiety due to orthodontic treatment” (19.60%), “complaints and limitations about treatment” (16.34%), and “neutral accounts of orthodontic treatment” (3.27%). No statistically significant associations were found in the nature of content between the two platforms (p > 0.05). Dentists and clinics dominate social media discussions on orthodontics. Among patient-shared content, ‘positive experiences’ were the most frequently mentioned. No significant differences were observed between platforms in the type of posts analyzed.
