This study aimed to develop a system for production prognoses for Pinus taeda L. plantation using Stand Density Management Diagram (SDMD) associated with diameter class models. The database used came from permanent plots measured in the Paraná and Santa Catarina states, southern Brazil. The methodology proposed by McCarter and Long Western Journal of Applied Forestry 1:6-11 (1986) and Dean and Baldwin (1993) was used in constructing the SDMD, which can generate stand attributes used as input in a diameter-class model, thus providing detailed prognosis of wood assortments in thinnings and final cut. With attributes from SDMD the parameters Weibull function are recovered by the method of moments and with the association of these two models types a production system was developed. The developed system can indicate the correct timing for thinnings and final cut (SDMD) and the most appropriate and profitable management regimes using the projection of the wood assortments (diameter-class model) and respective market values in a simply, quickly and economical way. The new methodology is an important tool, especially for forestry enterprises on small properties with the use of an easy-to-apply system by a forestry technician, which can reduce the forest rotation, implement the cuts at the right time, and in turn avoid mortality. Stand Density Management diagrams (SDMD) are excellent tools for defining the appropriate moment to perform thinnings and final cut, avoiding self-thinnings, but they are not capable of detailing the wood assortment. We built a system that uses SDMD to generate input variables for a diameter-class model. This association can indicate the correct time to perform thinnings and final cut (SDMD) and the most appropriate management regimes using the projection of the wood assortments in a simply, quickly and economical way.

(en) The article presents the results of research on the communicative activities of Amazonian socio-environmental agents on social networks. The aim was to analyze, from a qualitative perspective, the communication and journalism actions of seven of these agents, based on the premise that such actions were made possible thanks to their access to digital technologies, as well as their university education — most of them are journalists. These are communicators who seek to inform their local communities to contribute to the socio-environmental governance of such diverse territories in the Brazilian Amazon, a physical space marked by challenges. An exploratory cartography was carried out based on semi-structured interviews to investigate the communicative practices of these agents. In conclusion, it can be stated that the actions undertaken expand communication possibilities for Amazonian communities, foster the development of socio-environmental leadership, and advocate for the rights of peripheral Amazonian populations.

(en) Managing bud load is a major concern for vine growers, affecting vine balance and thus, fruit quality. Achieving the right bud number requires consideration of vineyard conditions and desired outcomes, and it is normally controlled through pruning. Subtropical climates often have longer growing seasons, and finding the optimal bud load is even more important, as vines tend to have increased growth. This study evaluated the influence of different bud numbers on the agronomic performance and aromatic composition of ‘Viognier’ grapevines grown under subtropical conditions. The experiments were conducted in a commercial vineyard in the municipality of Campo Largo, Paraná, Brazil, during the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 growing seasons. Vines were pruned using the Guyot system and evaluated under different bud numbers at pruning: 10, 20, 30, and 40 buds per plant. Agronomic performance, grape technological maturity, and wine volatile compounds using Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry detection (HS-SPME-GC-MS) were assessed. Higher bud numbers (30 and 40 buds per plant) resulted in increased yield, larger leaf area, and balanced Ravaz index values. The morphology of the bunches and technological ripeness were not significantly different between the treatments. However, the highest bud number (40 buds) increased the percentage of blind buds and decreased shoot length. Some volatile compounds, such as citronellol and β-damascenone, were found in higher concentrations in wines from the lowest bud number (10 buds per plant), while hexanol, ethyl octanoate, and ethyl-2-phenylacetate were more prevalent in treatments with higher loads.

(en) Objective: This study aims to analyze the profile of vegetation fires in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba from 2011 to 2016, focusing on the temporal (monthly, weekly, and hourly) and spatial distribution of occurrences.   Theoretical Framework: Fire is a natural phenomenon influenced by environmental variables and human activities. Statistical analysis of wildfires helps identify patterns and associated risks, while meteorological factors, such as rainfall and temperature, directly affect fire ignition and spread.   Method: Records of forest fires were analyzed based on location, time of year, and associated meteorological conditions. The correlation between fire occurrences and meteorological variables was assessed through statistical and geospatial analysis.   Results and Discussion: Fires predominantly occurred between July and September, with the highest incidence between 1:00 PM and 4:59 PM. Curitiba had the highest number of fire occurrences, while São José dos Pinhais and Piraquara recorded the largest burned areas, highlighting the need for regional preventive policies. The prevalence of fires in urbanized areas indicates strong anthropogenic influence. Furthermore, the correlation between fire events and dry periods confirms the impact of drought conditions.   Research Implications: The findings emphasize the importance of proactive fire management planning and the implementation of targeted strategies for urban-rural interface areas.   Originality/Value: The spatiotemporal analysis of wildfires is essential for developing public policies and improving fire management strategies, ultimately contributing to environmental protection and the reduction of socioeconomic impacts.
